P.G. Wodehouse
“Plum” (to his friends) was an English humorist best remembered for his fictional characters Bertie Wooster and Jeeves, who first appeared in a short story published in 1915 and lastly in a 1974 novel, Aunts Aren’t Gentlemen.
Wodehouse, born 1881, spent his childhood in Hong Kong, where his father was a judge. He returned to England for school. He began a banking career, but quickly switched to writing, splitting his time between London and New York, where he met and married an American woman.
Wodehouse became a U.S. citizen in 1955. He was knighted shortly before his death in 1975 but his 60+ years of lively, witty stories live on.
